Come make things that matter!  Columbia Steel Castings has a need for a Plant Accounting Analyst.  This position is responsible for process costing, cost analytics and management reporting. This position maintains a high level of communication responsibility to ensure a continually improving business model.  Acts as key finance and accounting support for Manufacturing Operations, Warehouse, IT, Human Resources and Executive Management for the sake of full collaboration on needs and expectations.  This position leads in the spirit of Columbia Steel business philosophy of treating all employees and co-workers with honesty, fairness and respect. This is an exempt, professional-technical position working generally Monday through Friday. This position may on occasion require longer hours and some weekend work.

 Responsibilities Include: 

  • Key member in the month-end closing process including completing raw material & supply inventory journal entries and departmental costs
  • Assists plant supervisors in understanding each department's cost of operations including supplying relevant and detailed cost/expense reporting
  • Complete monthly departmental reports and facilitate monthly departmental cost meetings
  • Prepare monthly cost anomaly and accounting reports for submission to executive management
  • Operational audits to assess proper allocations of costs
  • Maintain accurate raw material and supply inventory levels and balance between general ledger and system perpetual inventory (Stores)
  • Conducts regular physical raw material and supplies cycle counting audits
  • Develop accounting and plant operational reports using Jet Professional software (or comparable MS-Excel add-on)
  • Coordinates the Annual Plan (Budget) process for plant operations and generates the annual plant operating department costs and metrics
  • IT project and report liaison for plant operations
  • Participates in bi-weekly IT project meetings
  • Works with plant operations to create/implement/maintain procedures for data collection
  • Key member of the Continuous Improvement Program Steering Committee
  • Continuous Improvement project tracking and reporting
  • Performs Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) financial justifications and assists in annual CAPEX planning with Facilities Engineering
  • Adhoc projects and duties as assigned 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Must be able to work within tight deadlines, such as month end close
  • Ability to work regularly within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
  • Organized & results driven with an engaging style to achieve department and business results
  • General report writing skills using Jet Professional preferred (G/L, cost and operational analysis reporting)
  • Intermediate/Advanced MS-Excel skills
  • Ability to effectively influence others to achieve functional objectives
  • Team oriented and have the ability to remain objective
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent overall verbal and written communication skills with ability to articulate facts including speaking & presenting in a group setting
  • Ability to coordinate and facilitate across multiple functional areas
  • Ability to investigate and lead projects
  • Systematic approach to reporting
  • Strong sense of curiosity coupled with personal responsibility and flexible demeanor

 Education and/or Experience: 

  • Bachelor's in Accounting or closely related field
  • At least 3 to 5 years' experience in manufacturing / cost accounting / cost tracking and validation
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of manufacturing operations and the complexities that go along with a diversity of product lines
  • CMA or CPA designation desired
  • Good understanding of GAAP
  • Experience with budgeting/annual planning
  • Ability to learn business systems quickly
