Columbia Steel Casting (CSC) is a world renowned foundry that has over 100 years of history providing premium quality replacement parts for a wide range of industries (mining, aggregate, large dragline rigging, scrap recycling, cement and more). As a CSC Product Engineer you will use your talents to innovate and develop custom replacement part solutions that will outperform all other OEM or competitive parts available on the market today.

Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Product Manager and customers to provide cost effective designs using available technology and manufacturing capabilities
  • Collaborate with key production staff to ensure manufacturability of parts
  • Use new and existing technologies for improving engineering quality and effectiveness
  • Produce CAD solid models and detailed engineering drawings for quoting and production
  • Contribute to and maintain specific part documentation for CSC database and engineering files
  • Prepare quote information for new and/or redesigned products
  • Provide technical support to field sales personnel and District Manager
  • Reverse engineer, Field sketch, 3-D Scan

Specific Job Skills:

  • Ability to determine form, fit and function of casting designs to meet customer requirements
  • Ability to work on a number of complex projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work with hand sketches and data to translate into useful drawings
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interface with vendors, customers, production and sales personnel
  • Capable in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Orthographic projection and three dimensional visualization skills
  • Knowledgeable of strength, properties and application of steel alloys
  • Knowledge of DesignX & ControlX is desired

Education and / or Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • 5 years Mechanical Engineering experience preferred
  • 2+ years of design experience, experience with computer based stress analysis and solid modeling preferred

Job Conditions:

  • Potential for domestic and foreign travel (trade shows, customer visits, corporate presentations).
  • The person filing this position will spend the bulk of her / his time inside an office, however some time will be spent in the foundry and surrounding manufacturing facilities. 
  • Provide technical support to field sales personnel and District Managers; may participate in field trials and trade shows; up to 10% travel
