Position Overview:

 

Columbia Steel Casting Co., Inc. is a worldwide renowned manufacturer, providing premium quality replacement wear parts for a wide range of industries (mining, aggregate, cement, coal, scrap recycling and more). 

 

District Sales Managers report to the Director of Sales & Marketing and have regular communications with Columbia Product Engineers, Customer Service Representatives, other District Sales Managers, Marketing personnel, Customers and Dealers.  This role has no direct reports.

 

Columbia District Sales Managers are responsible for management of defined market segments within a given geographical territory.  The position is responsible for keeping contact with and satisfying current customer needs, development and execution of strategies that yield new customers and sales, regional and occasional national trade association involvement, input on overall corporate sales and marketing strategies and providing key input into new product development.

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  • Roughly 60% travel is required to visit customers at their facilities, attend regional trade association meetings and conventions, to visit Columbia headquarters located in Portland, Oregon

 

  • Develop and execute targeted strategies for sales growth with current customers and new prospects

 

  • Maintain current customer accounts through face-to-face visits, phone calls, email exchanges and more

 

  • Develop rapport and strong relationships with customers and Columbia dealers

 

  • Perform detailed wear parts performance surveys including, but not limited to, utilization of calipers and other measuring equipment, to be used for generating field sketches

 

  • Perform routine equipment surveys identifying make, model, serial numbers and keep equipment listings current on customer accounts within the customer database

 

  • Maintenance of customer lists, keeping all contact information current
  • Submission of daily sales reports to provide detailed summaries of important conversations and visits with customers

 

  • Coordinate sales activities with the Director of Sales & Marketing

 

  • Work with Marketing Manager on marketing tools and activities to help promote the Columbia brand within the territory and overall

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

  • Self-motivated with a proven track record of exhibiting exceptional work ethic

 

  • Ability to read technical drawings

 

  • Strong orthographic projection skills to translate three-dimensional objects in two-dimensions

 

  • Ability to take field measurements of three-dimensional objects and translate to working field sketches

 

  • Proficiency with computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point

 

  • Proficiency with AutoCad and/or SolidWorks is desired, but not required

 

Education and/or Experience:

 

  • A technical, engineering, business or marketing background is preferred

 

  • 10+ years of successful work history in the industries highlighted or technical heavy-equipment and / or replacement wear parts sales preferred

 

  • As part of the territory includes French speaking areas in Canada, ability to fluently speak both English and French is preferred

 

  • In depth technical knowledge of gyratory, jaw and cone crushers and the wear parts that are used to crush aggregate and ore is preferred

 

  • Knowledge and established solid relationships with maintenance, operations and purchasing people involved in companies Columbia targets in the territory are preferred

 

  • Fluency in French preferred.

 

Typical Work Conditions:

 

  • Significant time driving from customer-to-customer, sometimes over long distances in company provided vehicle is to be expected.

 

  • Job responsibilities often require walking outdoors and in industrial settings. Industrial and customer environments may include noise, fumes, dust, uneven terrain, confined spaces, and inclement weather.

Appendix A: Territory Details

 

This territory (801/901) is responsible for coverage in the states of Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and the Canadian Provinces of Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland with a heavy emphasis on the aggregate, metallic mining and scrap recycling industries.
